every ride tells a story
Eventing is a dynamic equestrian sport that tests the versatility, endurance, and skill of both horse and rider across three distinct phases: dressage, cross-country, and show jumping. Often referred to as the "equestrian triathlon," it combines the elegance of dressage, the bravery of cross-country, and the precision of show jumping. Each phase challenges different aspects of the partnership, requiring athleticism, trust, and determination. Whether competing at grassroots levels or in elite international events, eventing showcases the remarkable bond between horse and rider.
Three Day Eventing Involves the Following:
The first day of competition consists of the dressage phase. This involves obedience, flexion, bend, cooperation and roundness on the part of the horse. With that comes a series of patterns with rhythm, such as circles, diagonals, serpentines and half pass which the rider and horse must show in a memorized test.
On the second day the rider and horse are tested regarding their endurance and cross-country jumping. This is the soul of Eventing! Something completely out of the box. This stage involves: collaboration, trust, speed, control and pure commitment of the team.
Final and third day is stadium jumping or also known as show jumping. This is jumping over obstacles inside of a show ring. During this stage, the intent is to jump cleanly over the set course of various jumps i.e. verticals, spreads, double & triple combinations & even water complexes. If a horse/rider combination knock down any rails during their course, 4 faults are assigned for each rail knocked. Time faults are also assigned if the rider & horse exceed their time allowance. At the end, the judges add up all the scores/faults from all 3 days and determine 1st, 2nd, 3rd and so on.
